The illustrations are in watercolour, pencil and photocopy transfer (= a technique I use to give texture to the page, using solvent to loosen the toner from a photocopy and transfer it in a sort of black smudge).

For Christmas this year, I made my mum an illustrated book of a passage of writing by my late grandmother. It is a story from her childhood growing up in South Africa about how, as a young girl, her family's car broke down and they had to spend the night in the Namibian desert. The illustrations are in watercolour, pencil and photocopy transfer (= a technique I use to give texture to the page, using solvent to loosen the toner from a photocopy and transfer it in a sort of black smudge). I bound the booklet myself which was surprisingly tricky, but pleased to have learned a new technique.
