I was ill in bed yesterday so spent some time drawing - I'd like to say these sketches are the result of having a temperature but really I think they're inspired by visiting the Egon Schiele: The Radical Nude exhibition at the Courtauld and the Terror and Wonder: The Gothic Imagination exhibition at the British Library... either way some insight into my thoughts yesterday. The House of Illustration Christmas Illustrators' Fair is on until 7th December and I'm selling packs of postcards, 2 card designs for Christmas, gift tags and some original drawings:
I find sketching sometimes helps me listen and process - I went to one of The Forgiveness Project's 'Conversations on Forgiveness' on Monday, where the speakers talked about the power of words and narrative, and sketched from members of the audience and the talk itself. Click on pictures below to view full pages, and if you'd like to hear the talk it will be uploaded on The Forgiveness Project's youtube account soon.
I've been working on a short animation for the last few weeks - it's the first time I've ever tried something like this so it's a bit clunky but I'm really pleased overall. For copyright purposes I can't share the version I did using a soundtrack as I don't own it, but I think it is still interesting with just the images. The process involved drawing 74 individual images of approximately A5 size using pencil and graphite stick, then scanning and editing each frame (lining each one up so they would perfectly match) and finally putting it all together in iMovie. New respect for animators. Some work from tonight's life drawing class - some short exercises and longer drawings. Frustratingly, putting these drawings on my website doesn't give a sense of their scale. Today I was working in an A4 sketchbook, all previous life class drawings have been A3.

Maya commissioned me to draw a picture of her sister's new house to give to her as a birthday present: pencil, watercolour, pen
When there's no one else around to draw you have to draw yourself... Above: coloured pencil and white pen on black sugar paper Above: white pencil and pen on black sugar paper
I drew from photos which always feels a bit like cheating, but drawing both hands would be tough otherwise. |
